John Edwards memorial collection, 1929-1933.

Recordings of Jimmie Davis's Victor-Bluebird masters, recorded between 1929 and 1933 in studios in Memphis, Charlotte, Dallas, Camden, N.J., and Chicago. Accompaniment on the cuts varies from Davis's own solo guitar to a large number of backup instruments and musicians, including, on a few cuts, the yodeling of the 1930s singing cowgirl Patsy Montana.

Jimmie Davis (1899- ), Anglo-American country singer and songwriter from Louisiana, whose style was deeply influenced by early country music star Jimmie Rodgers. One of the first "hillbilly" singers to be signed by Decca, Davis had a long career as a singer and songwriter, including "You Are My Sunshine," as well as serving two terms as the governor of Louisiana.
